Microsoft Releases New Mobile Web Browser

REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft has unveiled a new mobile web browser that the company says is intended to more closely imitate a desktop surfing experience. The software giant is making the technology, called Deepfish, available to the public on a limited basis.

Dr. Gary William Flake, Microsoft technical fellow and founder and director of Microsoft Live Labs, said that Deepfish is a prototype technology and the company has no immediate plans to make it more widely available.

Flake said Deepfish was designed to be more intuitive and faster loading than previous mobile browsers.

“Deepfish provides users with a full ‘as-designed’ view of virtually any website on their mobile device and looks as you would expect it to on your desktop,” Flake told MobileTechReview.com. “[The interface] lets users zoom in and out on the parts of a webpage that interest them.

“Deepfish architecture only loads the user-specified portion of the page,” Flake added, “providing much quicker page-load times, as detailed information is only retrieved as needed or in the background.”
